Interesting “outside -> in” look (here) at the SMART concept at Contrarian Goldfish. I especially like the point about specific goals not accommodating change. Too many folks approach their objectives as if they’re all the role is about.
…of course, pursuing that great looking girl is a pretty specific objective (even if not “realistic”), eh?

Like all heuristics, SMART is useful as a guide, not gospel. I can’t tell you how many “how many objectives fit on the head of a pin” discussions I’ve had over the year.
Contrarians are great at puncturing such casuistry…
