Phoenix landing on Mars

God willing, the lander is in one piece and is operating.  Regardless, it was very cool to see the control room explode in applause, cheers, and tears once the Phoenix Mars lander sent its touchdown signal back to mission control.

I seem to take a bit more interest in NASA missions now that I sit with Ed Hoffman of NASA on the PMI Global Corporate Council.  My son Jon and I were transfixed watching and listening as the descent was counted down…100 meters, 50 meters, etc.  As my son said: “Those people are happy, daddy;  They go like this [big claps].”

Big claps, indeed.
