Irish heavyweight four not in the Beijing finals

Unfortunately, the Irish heavyweight four didn’t advance to the Beijing 2008 finals.  They’ll race once more in the “B” race, so my kin Sean Casey will row again.   They’re a young crew and hopes are high for the future — medaling in the UK in 2012 would be a treat — but they just weren’t together long enough before this Olympics.  From the RTE coverage:

Ireland’s heavyweight four will race in tomorrow’s ‘B’ final after finishing sixth in today’s high quality semi-final race at the Shunyi Rowing-Canoeing Park.

Considering this Irish crew, under the tutelage of Harald Jahrling, has only been together for the guts of a year and their average age is 28, they could yet become a feature at major championships in the years ahead.

The “B” race is tomorrow 14 August (5:50pm local time/5:50am Eastern time).
