I try to write my posts as tightly as possible.  However, my standards aren’t up to those of my son’s favorite books.  Take this passage from Lizard’s Escape, one of the Smithsonian Institution books in the excellent Read and Discover series published by Soundprints.  Prairie Skink has just been snared by Roadrunner and…

Prairie Skink tries to run.  But she cannot.  Roadrunner has her tail.  He does not let go.  Roadrunner pulls hard.  She has to get away!  Right now!

Could Hemingway have done better?  I think not…
