PM Quote of the Day — Richard III

A horse!  A horse!  My kingdom for a horse!

When Richard III is unhorsed at the end of Shakespeare’s tragedy, he realizes that all his Royal Prerogatives and riches are meaningless without the most basic accessory of a knight.

While we tend to use the line in jest these days, it reminds me not to forget the basics.  I mean, for all we know, it was Richard to whom this children’s rhyme refers:

For want of a nail the shoe was lost,
for want of a shoe the horse was lost,
for want of a horse the knight was lost,
for want of a knight the battle was lost.
So it was a kingdom was lost – all for want of a nail.
