Knowledge management is a critical knowledge area for project managers, even if it doesn’t have its own identity in the PMBOK Guide. While every project is unique, ideally we can identify repeatable parts of the PM processes and operationalize or industrialize them. Furthermore, project managers and PMOs ideally should learn from other’s mistakes, not just their own. Finally, KM is essential for identifying management insights and innovations that can differentiate one’s PMO, company, or personal skills from the rest of the world.
